Kunti uses her boon, given to her by Sage Durvasa, to invoke gods of her choice and obtain children from them. After this Dhritarashtra becomes de facto king of Hastinapur. Pandu, heartbroken, renounces the kingdom with his 2 wives. Pandu is later cursed by Sage Kindama, that he will die if he attempts to impregnate his wives. Pandu marries Kunti, a princess of Kunti Kingdom, and Madri of Madra Kingdom. Dhritarashtra is denied the throne for being blind, and the throne is given to Pandu. This angers Shakuni, the brother of Gandhari, and he vows to destroy Bhishma, as it was him who had brought the proposal for Gandhari's marriage. After knowing her would-be-husband is blind Gandhari decided to blindfold herself to share her husband's pain.
25 years laterĭhritarashtra is married to Gandhari, the princess of Gandhara Kingdom because of her boon of bearing a hundred sons. Soon, Ambika gives birth to Dhritarashtra, born blind, Ambalika gives birth to Pandu, born pale and Parashrami gives birth to Vidura. Besides the queens, Vyasa also impregnates a maid Parishrami through occult. Vichitravirya died without any children, but Veda Vyasa, the son of Satyavati born through occult is requested to impregnate Vichitravirya's 2 wives Ambika and Ambalika the same way he was conceived. She blames Bhisma and vows that she will be the reason of his death. Chitrangad dies and on the advice of queen Saytavati Bhisma wins the three princesses of Kashi kingdom for Vichitravirya but the eldest Princess Amba refuses to marry him and leaves for her lover who rejects her. Shantanu and Satyavati marry and have 2 children - Chitrangada and Vichitravirya.
a little bit of my disappointment arise due to short episodes on Virataparwan (which should told us more about Pandava's suffering and how they survived), and small appearance of Gathotkacha, regarding this character is adored by kids and adults in our country.The story begins with Bhishma, the son of Shantanu and Ganga, taking his oath of celibacy to convince Satyavati to marry his father Shantanu, the king of Hastinapura.

I myself would like to praise this movie (BR Chopra's Mahabharat was also aired by our television long ago)as the best version of Mahabharat.
some key actors of Mahabharat enjoyed high appreciation in our country during their tour recently, and i think they worth it, regardless disappointed voices on their acting performance. which are damaged seriously within young and adult generation all over the world these days. what I love from this movie is their objectives to spread moral values, such as respect the elders, obey your parents, respect for women, teenage bravery to protect their parents,equal rights for low-class people, etc. as I and several of our people read both Indian/original version and Javanese/Indonesian version of Mahabharat, so we don't mind and regret any improved or updated version of Mahabharat, as long as we can catch the moral message lies within the movie (and the book) itself. we have our own version of Mahabharat which been rewritten and recreated by our ancestors thousands years BCE. but one who never read the book before, esp when you lived abroad far from India like me, will love the movie and perhaps wants to read the book after they watch this movie. Anyone who read the Mahabharat book perhaps will feel disappointed with the story, indeed.
